May 17th: Drama

On May 17th, we managed to sort out a lot of important things that needed to doing or scheduling.  We have arranged an extra rehearsal on Thursday 26th May for 2 hours in the drama department at school.  With this extra rehearsal in, we could afford to spend an hour making all the necessary props needed for the performance.  We decided, instead of making lots of unnecessary props and backdrops, we would just put a black or plain piece of cloth on the rail at the back which I will be providing and put on a sign that says ‘The House’ on one side and ‘The Forest’ on the other.

On the stairs, we have made a sign that says ‘Forest Path’ on one side and ‘Bed’ on the other.

We are putting a sign on the book simply saying ‘book’ on it.  We have also made the cover of the book with a scary photo of little red on the front and a blurb on the back which has been edited and changed really obviously in black marker.  This also references the script which is an extra detail we thought we be good to include.

Finally, we made a tag for the axe which just said ‘Axe’ on it.  Olly wanted to make an axe out of paper and tinfoil but we thought it would add to the humour if we just used a simple stick with a label on it.

During lunch, we rehearsed as we need all the time we can get.  We just rehearsed the play, going through it from start to finish with as little interruptions as possible then we discussed where we would get the cloth for the rail and the table from.  I told them that I could ask my grandma as she was likely to be able to provide us with some and contacted her.  She said I could go and have a look so I am going on Sunday to choose some appropriate material.
Unfortunately, Frankie and I aren’t going to be in the rehearsal on Tuesday as we have a PE Theory exam that day.  This is another factor which makes Thursday’s rehearsal even more important.  On Thursday, we are bringing all costumes, props and the backdrops I have chosen and we will have our first dress and technical rehearsal!
